COME TO THE LIGHT

Light

Light

Come to the Light

Let there be Light

Open my sight

So that I might

Walk into the night

With a feeling of might

A laugh of delight

A testimony that will incite

Your people to delight

In You.

This spoken WORD was inspired by the following scripture from the Holy Bible:

Matthew 5:13-20 (NRSV)
You are salt and light

"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Not NOW, Lord…

All too often Lord

When you have tried to speak to me

I have turned a deaf ear

To your wisdom

Your warning

Your words

I have hidden my face

From your cries

Knowing that to listen

Would mean to change

And I don’t really want to do that.

I hate it when your people

Speak Truth to me

I hear it

I know it

I believe it

But not now

Not

NOW

Now I am young

And now life is fun

And now I don’t have time

For You

GOD

But, later…

When I am old

When I am ready

When I am strong

When I get my life together

Then

I will listen

And then

I will follow

And then

I will hear

And then

I will heed you

But not

NOW

Because now

I am too busy

Too cool

And too independent

To strap myself to

YOU.

This Spoken WORD was inspired by reading the following scripture from the Holy Bible:

Matthew 23:29-39 (NRSV)

Woe to those who kill and crucify the prophets

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous, and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.' Thus you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your ancestors. You snakes, you brood of vipers! How can you escape being sentenced to hell? Therefore I send you prophets, sages, and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town, so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. Truly I tell you, all this will come upon this generation.

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you, desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

The ONE

You who are One

The great One

The Omnipotent One

One
in the Beginning

One
in the End

Many, but One

Multifaceted by One

Triune, but One

Knower of all things

Searcher of all hearts

Convener of All Mysteries

Strong in my weakness

Made weak by Your Own Strength

Larger than all Existence

Infinite but with no need of Time

Holy in all your ways

Unfathomable mystery

Cloud of Unknowing

Yet near to all who call…

Light and Cloud on The Way

Leader but from behind

Mysterius tremendum

Scent of the Rose

Song of the Bird

Unseen wind

Blowing

In my face

Ruach

Wind

Breath

Spirit

Blowing…

Knower of all Secrets

Searcher of all hearts

Judge of all people

Mercy and grace in the midnight hour

Savior of prostitutes and tax collectors

Please, remember me when You come into Your Kingdom

Although I am unworthy

And have done unmentionable wrong

Do Lord

Oh do Lord

oh do

remember

me…

This Spoken WORD was inspired by reading the following scripture from the Holy Bible:

Matthew 21:23-32 (NRSV)

The faith of tax collectors and prostitutes

When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?" Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?" And they argued with one another, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' But if we say, 'Of human origin,' we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet." So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

"What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' He answered, 'I will not'; but later he changed his mind and went. The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, 'I go, sir'; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and even after you saw it, you did not change your minds and believe him.
