Prayer Changes Things

SCRIPTURE

Luke 1:5-17 (NRSV)

God's Spirit to come on John the Baptist

In the days of King Herod of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife was a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. Both of them were righteous before God, living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were getting on in years.

Once when he was serving as priest before God and his section was on duty, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense. Now at the time of the incense offering, the whole assembly of the people was praying outside. Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified; and fear overwhelmed him. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink; even before his birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. With the spirit and power of Elijah he will go before him, to turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

NOT SO GLORIOUS

We have seen your glory
but life
It isn't glorious
Day after day we labor
making mess after mess
because we fail to truly embrace
Grace and Truth.

Living is hard
Dying is harder
And I don't feel so graceful
just now...

But, you promised me
grace upon grace
Please make Jesus known to me
in my final hours
help me to believe
that my living has not
been in vain
Forgive my sins
Known and unknown and
Please
Grant me your peace
I want to come home now
I need to behold your glory
Full of Grace
Full of Truth
Jesus
I need Thee now.

This spoken WORD was inspired by the following scripture in the Holy Bible:

John 1:14-18 (NRSV)

We have seen the glory of God

And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth. (John testified to him and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.'") From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.

Seek & Save

I've come to seek
and save the lost
So I saw you in your tree
small in stature
not amounting to much
but a follower you shall be
come down from there
for we must sup
and talk of things so true
You've not done good
we'll make it right
If only others knew
they wouldn't judge
the things you've done
they'd celebrate your change
for today salvation
came to your door
and you didn't find Him strange
Now your life
will never be
the same as it once was
Your family line
has been transformed
and all of this because
you chose to see
for yourself
the one whom they call Lord
your wisdom
on that blessed day
led to eternal reward

This Spoken WORD was inspired by the following scripture from the Holy Bible.

Luke 19:1-10 (NRSV)

Salvation makes a home with Zacchaeus

He entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, "He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner." Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much." Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost."

IN JESUS' NAME

God,
I'm asking
in Jesus' Name
for things so
wonderful
I dare not speak them
out loud.
You said
anything
I ask
you would do it.
Did you really mean
ANYTHING?
I truly want your will
to be done
in my life
as it is
in heaven.
Show me the will
of the Father
and that is what
I will do.
I'm am asking You
PLEASE
hear
my
prayer...

This scripture was inspired by the following scripture in the Holy Bible:

Philip and James, Apostles
John 14:8-14 (NRSV)

Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
