Teacher

I will follow

Except,

When you want to go

Where I do not want to go

Except,

When you ask me to leave behind

That which I do not want to leave behind

Except,

When my relationship with you

Causes dissention in my relationships with others

Except,

When it is inconvenient for me

To follow where you lead

Except,

When your leading

causes me

discomfort,

hardship,

or pain

Except,

When our journey together

Actually

Costs me something…

Then

I will

lead

MYSELF.

But, except

For all the except--ions

Follow

YOU.

The cost of discipleship

Now when Jesus saw great crowds around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. A scribe then approached and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
