EXCITED ABOUT...LOVE

Excited about
God’s people
Who are tryin’
To do something
About racism in
The world
And
In the church.

I know that
God
is not partial
To any people
From any nation.

Somebody told me
that GOD so loved
THE WORLD
That GOD
gave Jesus!

But, I gotta
Tell you the truth…
Sometimes I can’t tell
That God loves everyone
By lookin’ in the
Sanctuary on Sunday
At the folks assembled for worship.

It seems God loves rich folk.
Or God loves white folk.
Or God loves suburban folk.
Where is the Gospel
For me?

I am so glad
that some folks
Remember--
And believe
That the Sum of the Law
Is this…
Love the LORD your GOD
With all your
Heart
Mind
Soul
And Strength
And love your
NEIGHBOR
As YOURSELF.

I’m glad some folks
Are serious about
Going out to
ALL THE NATIONS
To baptize
And to teach

Somebody told me
It’s all about
JESUS
And that the GOSPEL
Is GOOD NEWS
For all
Of God’s people.

So, how can we say,
“God is love.”
When God’s people
Have failed so miserably
To love our neighbors
As ourselves?

Have mercy
On us, O God.

Excited about
CHRISTian folks
Tryin’ to be an example
Confessing racism
As the SIN
That it is
Repenting…
Turning…
Starting anew…
Working to make things right…

It’s going to be
An uphill battle
But, GOD
Is on
our side.

And LOVE
Always
Wins.

Now,
Ain’ta that
GOOD
NEWS?

This spoken word is inspired by the following scripture in the Holy Bible:

Acts 10:34-43 (NRSV)

God shows no partiality

Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ - he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."
